Marine Debris
Life is literally being choked out of our planet's Oceans. Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck full of plastic is dumped into the oceans.

It’s estimated that over 1.4 billion pounds of plastic is dumped into the ocean every year.

There is no part of the world left untouched by debris and its impacts, every Ocean is infected with plastic. Marine debris is a threat to our environment, navigation safety, the economy, and human health.
It is a complex multifaceted and overwhelmingly vast issue. In order for us to find solutions to this issue we need to fully understand the problem.
What exactly is "Marine Debris"?
The term “MARINE DEBRIS” is defined as: “any manufactured or processed persistent solid material that is directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally, disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment”
Currently there is no ocean that is not contaminated with marine debris, even in the most remote and pristine places on the planet. There is now OVER ONE TON of debris for every single human on this planet, which is 7.5 billion humans (and counting...).
The ocean plastic debris accumulated via the oceans currents into massive “gyres” of trash. Plastic is becoming the smog of the sea and forming a toxic soup circulating and dumping waste on to beaches across the planet.
Our oceans are drowning in garbage and fishing gear lost at sea accounts for over 46% of plastic in the ocean and is responsible for killing over 100,000 marine animals.
