Red Tide Bracelet
Red Tide Bracelet
Red Tide Is Devastating Florida's Marine Life.
The "Red Tide" bracelet is made from a salvaged fishing line collected during a coastal cleanup at a beach in Boca Grande, Florida by PLL ambassador, Douglas Hattendorf, founder of mamaOcean.
"Anything that can leave has, and anything that couldn't leave has died."
A red tide is a higher-than-normal concentration of a microscopic algae. In Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, the species that causes most red tides is Karenia brevis, often abbreviated as K. brevis.
This year a massive red tide has bloomed on the Gulf coast of Florida. A state of emergency has been declared and thousands of marine animals have washed up dead on beaches, including countless fish, manatees, sea turtles, and even a whale shark.
Each bracelet is representative the life of a marine animal that perished due to the Red Tide of 2018.
The purpose for creating these bracelets is to spread awareness of the issues that can compound a red tide event. Our mission is to protect the lives of the animals that have survived the red tide by supporting cleanup projects and preventing wildlife entanglement in fishing gear. Proceeds will directly benefit the Line4Life Project.
